Summary

We are looking to recruit apprentices to work alongside our experienced commercial body shop paint sprayers. Work involves rubbing down panels, masking, and preparing new and used trucks, horse boxes, coaches, trailers, and large vans, prior to them going into the paint booths. This is a friendly, team orientated, focused on quality not quantity.

Wage

£15,704 for your first year, then could increase depending on your age

Work

Most of your apprenticeship is spent working. You’ll learn on the job by getting hands-on experience.

What you'll do at work

Reporting directly to the Workshop Manager and guided by a dedicated mentor, your role will involve hands-on experience across the entire commercial painting process. Including but not limited to:

  • Preparation: Loading and unloading large commercial paint booths, meticulously masking, and completing the final preparation of vehicles/components prior to paint application.
  • Paint Mixing: Accurately matching and mixing paint colours using one of our two computerised mixing schemes.
  • Application: Applying 2K paint systems to a consistently high standard.
  • Safety & Compliance: Adhering to all workshop safety procedures and best practices.

What you'll learn

Course contents
  • Ability to undertake appropriate job preparation prior to commencing repair e.g. substrate surface preparation, paint volume calculation etc
  • Ability to correctly identify the substrate materials to be refinished e.g. plastic, steel, aluminium etc
  • Ability to interpret relevant technical data and methods to create paint manufactures specified application
  • Ability to use refinishing materials following paint manufacturer specifications to reinstate vehicle finish back to high quality
  • Ability to identify and operate the correct repair tools, equipment and devices used in the process e.g mixing systems, paint booths, UV lamps and spray equipment

Training schedule

In-house training plus the candidate will follow a Level 3 Apprenticeship programme and study towards a Level 3 in Vehicle Damage Paint Technician. This training will be structured and delivered by Cheshire College – South & West. The successful applicant will study 1 day a week at our Wrexham paint facility.

Essential qualifications

GCSE in:

  • English (grade C/4 or above)
  • Maths (grade C/4 or above)
