We’re looking for a motivated Network Engineer Apprentice who’s eager to dive in, learn fast, and help us deliver exceptional solutions for our customers. In this role, you’ll explore diverse applications, tackle real technical challenges, and play a key part in strengthening both our service offering and our long-term growth.

£14,918.80 for your first year, then could increase depending on your age

Work

Most of your apprenticeship is spent working. You’ll learn on the job by getting hands-on experience.

What you'll do at work

· To provide 1st, 2nd and 3rd line technical support, answering support queries via phone, email and live chat.

· To maintain a high degree of customer service for all support queries and adhere to all service management principles.

· To take ownership of user problems and be proactive when dealing with user issues.

· To log all calls on the ticketing system.

· Respond to enquiries from clients and help them resolve any Network, Server, hardware or software problems.

· Maintain a log of all calls taken.

· Maintain a log of any software or hardware problems detected.

· Support users in the use of Computer equipment by providing necessary training and advice.

· To allocate more complex calls to the relevant Support member if it cannot be resolved.

· To help arrange for external technical support where problems cannot be resolved in-house by liaising with relevant admin staff.

  • Apply tools and techniques when securely operating and testing networks.
  • Install and configure network components.
  • Implement tools and techniques to monitor, identify, analyse and record systems performance in line with defined specifications.
  • Maintain security of the network against potential threats.
  • Apply tools and or techniques to gather information to troubleshoot issues and or isolate, repair or escalate faults.
  • Communicate outcomes of tasks and record actions in line with organisational procedures.
  • Upgrade, apply and test components to systems configurations ensuring that the system meets the organisation’s requirements and minimises downtime.
  • Interpret information and or specifications received from a manager, customer or technical specialist and accurately implement the defined requirements.
  • Implement techniques to optimise systems or component performance in line with defined specifications.
  • Apply the required level of responsibility when organising and prioritising work tasks, clients’ or stakeholders’ requests in line with SLAs and organisation processes.
  • Explain their job role within the business context to stakeholders to enable a clear understanding on both sides of what their remit is and convey technical constraints.
  • Operate securely, and apply process, policies and legislation within their business responsibilities.
  • Configure and maintain network addressing in line with customer requirements.
  • Ensure compliance of network engineering outputs with change management processes including Secure Access Service Edge SASE or Zero-trust networking .

Other requirements

We’re looking for someone with strong verbal and written communication skills, who can remain calm under pressure and apply logical thinking to troubleshoot and resolve issues. You should be a team player who can also work independently, hold a full UK driving licence with access to a car. Technically, you should have experience with Microsoft Windows Server (2008+), Windows desktops (7+), and the Microsoft Office suite (2007+), along with knowledge of VoIP systems, SIP trunks, and general telephony troubleshooting. Familiarity with Active Directory, Group Policy, Exchange and Office 365 administration, networking fundamentals such as VLANs, TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, and LAN/WAN configuration is important, as well as experience with virtualisation platforms like VMware or Hyper-V. Skills in Office 365 configuration, migration, and management, including SharePoint, OneDrive, and email, are also highly beneficial.
