We deliver maintenance of private gardens and some commercial premises. The job will involve delivering garden maintenance contracts with regular customers as well as stand-alone gardening and landscaping projects. The successful candidate will learn how to deliver a range of horticultural & soft landscaping services. There are opportunities to learn various hard landscaping skills as well. 

Some of the tasks will include:

  • Maintenance of borders and lawns
  • Weeding, deadheading
  • Seasonal bulb planting
  • Being responsible for the safety of themselves and others
  • Watering
  • Using tractors/ride on mowers and mounted equipment after training
  • Mowing and lawn care with use of a variety of equipment
  • Planting trees, shrubs and herbaceous plants with pruning and ongoing care, including labelling
  • Propagation
  • Planting seedlings if required (not day to day part of role)
  • Care of house plants/potted plants
  • Hedge cutting and strimming
  • Occasional maintenance of woodland area

Working environment:

  • This work is undertaken in private gardens or at commercial businesses
  • Your working environment will be outdoors in all weathers

  • This Apprenticeship requires attendance to East Durham College's Houghall Campus on a weekly basis
