The new Apprentice will be integral to the logistical side of the business and will be involved in preparing orders for dispatch, booking in and receiving goods and locating in the warehouse. Subject to insurance and satisfactory licenses the Apprentice could undertake deliveries and fork truck offloading/loading.
Responsibilities will include:
- Picking Goods ready for dispatch
- Unloading supplier vehicles of various products
- Assembly of corrugated packaging and associated parts
- Putting stock away in designated locations
- Help with daily vehicle checks and basic maintenance
After basic training progressing to:
- Booking in stock
- Preparing picking lists
- Preparing delivery notes
- Routing delivery runs
- Gaining Forklift Operators license
- Local goods deliveries subject to license and insurance
- Manufacturing of corrugated cartons
Requirements and prospects
Desired skills
- Basic PC knowledge would be an advantage
- Good communication skills

- Accurate in counting and entering information

Desired qualifications
- GCSEs at grades A*-C/9-4 (or equivalent) in maths and English are preferable, but not essential
Future prospects
- While there is no guarantee of employment after the apprenticeship our intention is to keep on the successful candidate with a view to building a future at Barton Jones Packaging
- All 4 previous apprentices have stayed on and progressed in the company to senior roles
Things to consider
- The job is very physical including lots of lifting and time on your feet. The warehouse environment while pleasant in the Summer can be cold in the Winter months. The majority of the work is based inside, but you must be prepared to work outside all year round
