The school is looking to recruit a highly motivated and enthusiastic ICT Technician Apprentice.

This is a great opportunity to work as part of the school’s support staff team in this highly popular and successful school of students aged between 11-18 years old.

You will support the maintenance & management of ICT related functions of the school under the leadership of the Network Manager. You will also be required to work on other local school sites.

The role is ideal for those new to the profession, seeking to pursue a career in IT. This appointment will be critical in assisting with the school’s ICT functions to deliver an excellent network of hardware and software which will improve school effectiveness. This role will be a key first step for those professionals wanting to develop their skills and broaden their ICT knowledge and experience to help develop their professional career.

Key Tasks, with the full support of the Network Manager are:

  • Work alongside the schools Network Manager to continually develop the ICT infrastructure of the school
  • Ensure that all servers, computers and other ICT equipment is maintained in full working order, repairing or organising repair of defective items when necessary
  • Support with Health & Safety related considerations linked to ICT systems i.e. PAT Testing
  • Ensure that software is upgraded and installed as necessary and that appropriate licences are purchased
  • Install and configure new hardware and software when appropriate
  • Identify problems and find solutions either in-house or through external advice and services to keep all software and hardware fully operational
  • Provide support to users of the school’s Management Information System and other administrative software
  • Maintain an accurate inventory of all ICT equipment
  • Assist in the ongoing management of the school app (Parentmail)
  • Ensure that both school website and Intranet are kept up to date
  • Provide advice and training to individual staff and students as required on specific issues
  • Provide occasional specific training to groups of staff by negotiation with the Network Manager
  • Support with the schools’ compliances, such as GDPR To provide support for the wider community of the school including, but not limited to: Local primary schools Partner organisations Community users
  • Undertake the necessary training associated with the post

Requirements and prospects

Desired skills

  • Basic knowledge and understanding of desktop, laptop and mobile devices
  • Desirable: Advanced understandings and practical experience with PC hardware and software
  • Good level of ICT skill in personal use
  • Good written and oral communication skills

Desired qualifications

Minimum of 4 X GCSEs grades 9-4 (A-C) including English and Maths 

Desirable: An A-Level or higher education qualification related to ICT

The current National Minimum Wage for an apprentice is £4.30 an hour. This rate applies to apprentices under 19 and those aged 19 or over who are in their first year.
Apprentices must be paid at least the minimum wage rate for their age if they are aged 19 or over and have completed their first year.
The minimum wage rates are £6.45 an hour for 18-20 year olds and £7.70 for anyone aged 21 and over.
Apprentices are paid for their normal working hours and training that’s part of their apprenticeship (usually one day per week).
