Our Submarines business has been safely delivering world class submarines to the UK Royal Navy for more than a century. The Astute class will equip the Royal Navy with its largest and most capable generation of attack submarines. We are responsible for the design, build, test and commissioning of these state-of-the-art vessels.

Work

Most of your apprenticeship is spent working. You’ll learn on the job by getting hands-on experience.

What you'll do at work

  • Working in confined spaces is a key part of the role; you will be expected to carry out routine inspections throughout the shipyard, including making access and egress arrangements
  • Sourcing the appropriate material and equipment when setting up a confined space, examples would be extraction hoses and safety air monitors
  • Responsible for suspending any confined space that doesn't meet requirements
  • Preparing the appropriate consumables, materials, components and calibrated equipment for jobs required across the site
  • Utilising a range of hand tools to manufacture protection required to protect the boat and its assets, including the use of machinery such as sewing machines
  • Abiding by workmanship standards and risk assessments

Essential qualifications

GCSE in:

3 GCSE Inc Maths, English (grade A*-E or 9-3 (or equivalent))
