Located in Totnes, Sirona Therapeutic Horsemanship provides equine-assisted therapy and learning to vulnerable and disadvantaged young people and adults with support needs supported by therapists, social workers and teachers.

Work
Most of your apprenticeship is spent working. You’ll learn on the job by getting hands-on experience.
What you'll do at work
Duties to include but are not limited to:
- Mucking out of stables
- Field maintenance collecting muck, fencing and weed control
- Turning out horses and bringing in
- Feeding horses
- Grooming and assisting with clipping
- Changing rugs, tacking up
- Exercising horses and ponies both ridden and in-hand
- You will learn the skill of liberty, lunging and long reining of horses
- Assisting practitioners on therapeutic sessions
- Supporting volunteers and work experience students
- Keeping the yard and buildings clean and tidy
- Assisting with general running and managing yard duties including other animal care
- Assisting on events, such as courses and open days

- You will gain a Level 2 apprenticeship qualification in Equine Groom & also an Emergency First Aid qualification
- You will need to attend our Duchy Stoke Climsland one day a week, with the rest of your working week in the workplace

Opportunity to undertake free in-house training in child protection, mental health, 1st aid, equine-assisted interactions at Sirona.

Essential qualifications
GCSE in:
- English (grade 3/D)
- Maths (grade 3/D)
Share if you have other relevant qualifications and industry experience. The apprenticeship can be adjusted to reflect what you already know.

Other requirements
Sirona is committed to keeping children and young people safe. Roles are subject to full safeguarding scrutiny and assessment process, including enhanced DBS and reference checks. Would be beneficial if you can ride 14hh ponies. Following interview there will be a work trial required.
About this employer
Sirona Therapeutic Horsemanship is located just outside Totnes and provides equine-assisted therapy and learning to vulnerable and disadvantaged young people and adults with support needs supported by therapists, social workers and teachers. Sirona is a small, relaxed and friendly yard with 8 horses and ponies alongside other animals, dogs, cat, chickens and 2 goats. Sirona is set on the beautiful Dartington estate with fantastic off-road hacking together with arena and a round pen for liberty/join up work.
After this apprenticeship
Upon successful completion of your apprenticeship, you may wish to consider progressing to Level 3 Senior Equine Groom. There may also be an opportunity for paid employment at Sirona.
