Summary

Our Submarines business has been safely delivering world class submarines to the UK Royal Navy for more than a century. The Astute class will equip the Royal Navy with its largest and most capable generation of attack submarines. We are responsible for the design, build, test and commissioning of these state-of-the-art vessels.

Work

Most of your apprenticeship is spent working. You’ll learn on the job by getting hands-on experience.

What you'll do at work

  • You will rotate through several specialised teams, each focused on different aspects of plant maintenance
  • Maintaining and repairing fixed plant systems, working on the infrastructure of buildings and machinery positioning in them.
  • You will get hands-on experience with a broad range of equipment, including variable speed drives, computer numerical control (CNC) machinery, automated welding, cranes, robotics, thermography and programmable logic controllers (PLCs)
  • Day-to-day tasks may include performing routine and preventative maintenance, as well as improving the functionality of existing equipment and systems
  • Specialised training provided for robotic welding, CNC/PLC operation, building management systems, conducting both minor and major repairs
  • The role requires the highest safety and engineering standards applied each day in placement

Essential qualifications

GCSE in:

5 GCSE Inc Maths, English & Science or Technical (grade A*-C or 9-4 (or equivalent))
