Work

Most of your apprenticeship is spent working. You’ll learn on the job by getting hands-on experience.

What you'll do at work

During your time as a Teaching Assistant Apprentice, you will provide direct support for the learning of individual children or groups of children, including those with some level of SEN, to achieve progress in learning, under the general direction of the class teacher. Some of you day to day duties will include:

  • Providing feedback, usually verbal, to pupils during learning episodes about the quality of their learning, saying what they have done well and what they need to improve
  • Communicating children’s achievements during lessons to the class teacher, this may be in written form (i.e. notes on plans, filling in an given proforma or using online assessment observation tools
  • Supervising children at break times, on a rota
  • Promote academy policies on pupil behaviour and follow academy processes for the management of behaviour
  • Follow the academy safeguarding policies and raising any safeguarding concerns with the Designated Safeguarding Lead or the Deputy Designated Safeguarding Lead
  • Support in the implementation of strategies to manage pupil behaviour, including the consistent use of rewards and sanctions, understanding the limits to which they may employ such sanctions
  • Communicate with colleagues, children and parents in a professional and respectful manner, respecting confidentiality
  • Work in compliance with the codes of conduct, regulations and policies of the academy and its commitment to equal opportunities

  • Adapt teaching strategies to support all learners (for example, scaffolding, open questioning).
  • Identify and respond to pastoral and academic behaviours in learners.
  • Provide feedback to learners.

Training schedule

  • Teaching Assistant Level 3 qualification
  • All learning is delivered online/ remotely
  • You will receive 20% off the job training to work towards your apprenticeship

Requirements

Essential qualifications

GCSE in:

English and Maths (grade A*-C (4-9))

Share if you have other relevant qualifications and industry experience. The apprenticeship can be adjusted to reflect what you already know.
