Summary

Limehurst Academy are looking for a teaching assistant apprentice to provide high quality support to enable students with additional needs to make outstanding progress in their learning and to play a full and active part in the life of the school.

Monday - Friday, 8.30am - 3.30pm including 30-minute lunchbreak. After school sessions some Mondays to attend staff training and department and year team meetings.

Work

Most of your apprenticeship is spent working. You’ll learn on the job by getting hands-on experience.

What you'll do at work

  • To work collaboratively with colleagues as part of a professional team, in particular the class teacher, the SENDCO and other Teaching Assistants; working at all times within the school’s policies and procedures
  • To support those students who have additional needs in the classroom
  • To promote and support the inclusion of all students in the learning activities in which they are involved
  • To promote the development of students’ self-esteem, emotional resilience and independence
  • To establish good relationships with students, acting as a role model and being aware of and responding appropriately to individual needs
  • To provide support in line with students’ access arrangements for formal examinations
  • If required, to provide support to students during the unstructured times of the school day
  • To assist with the maintenance of student record-keeping systems, including recording agreed updates to individual learning and support plans
  • To attend staff meetings, participate in performance management arrangements and undertake training and development activities

  • Comply with legislation, guidance, and procedures for Prevent, safeguarding and health & safety.
  • Support the well-being and mental health of learners.
  • Observe, record, and report on learners in line with organisational procedures.
  • Apply methods of formative assessment.
  • Use up to date technology safely, to support learning.
  • Encourage safe use of technology by learners.
  • Adapt teaching strategies to support all learners (for example, scaffolding, open questioning).
  • Identify and respond to pastoral and academic behaviours in learners.
  • Provide feedback to learners.

Training schedule

  • A mixture of blended learning in the workplace and taught delivery every other Friday afternoon at the Loughborough College Campus (optional term time only)
  • Diarised visits from dedicated Trainer/Assessor
  • Attendance to Loughborough College Campus for Functional Skills (if required)
  • On-the-job training
  • Off-the-job training

More training information

An apprenticeship includes regular training with a college or other training organisation. At least 20% of your working hours will be spent training or studying.

Desirable qualifications

GCSE in:

  • English (grade 4/C)
  • Maths (grade 4/C)
