This position will enable you to develop valuable skills, gain hands-on experience and learn from exceptional people, all while you work towards gaining the AAT qualification and achieve your career goals. The role is full time with full study support, a competitive salary and you will be working in a friendly and progressive environment.

Monday to Friday, 7.5 hours per day with flexible start and end times. A standard working week is 37.5 hours with no requirement to work on a weekend or on an evening.

Work

Most of your apprenticeship is spent working. You’ll learn on the job by getting hands-on experience.

What you'll do at work

·        Supporting the delivery of assignments through undertaking audit fieldwork both at client premises and in the office

·        Successfully communicating with the client throughout the audit, including systems understanding and for general queries relating to the testing being undertaken

·        Attendance at stock takes

·        Highlighting areas of risk or significance for the Senior or Executive to review

·        Responding to review points and clearing them as and when required

·        Collaborating with all team members and those within the wider business

·        Extracting information from the client’s accounting system and obtaining supporting documents as required

·        Preparation of accounts on Iris (including those under FRS102 and 1A)

·        Completing audit programmes

·        Building relationships with the client (and their team) and acting as an ambassador for the business. You will be expected to professionally represent the firm and its interests in dealings with clients and other professionals

What you'll learn

Course contents
  • Collate and analyse financial information, and show how that information can be used most effectively to support value creation within an organisation.
  • Apply accounting principles and adhere to legislation to ensure records are accurate and compliant with law or company policy when delivering accounting activities, such as the financial accounting of single entities, limited companies or partnerships or management accounting activities for an organisation.
  • Apply professional scepticism when undertaking accounting activities to inform and evaluate decision making on the content of true and fair accounts, being alert to conditions that may indicate possible misstatement of financial information due to error or fraud, establishing the facts sensitively and being aware of unconscious bias.
  • Interpret financial information for accounting purposes, such as using judgement to determine the correct way to report or account for transaction or undertaking ratio analysis.
  • Participate in or support others with quality improvement activities, for example the improvement of personal working practices.
  • Use software packages to assist with accounting tasks in line with cyber and data security requirements, using data securely and safely, including backing up data.
  • Deliver accounting tasks with a critical eye to transactions and trends, demonstrating a ‘right first time approach’.
  • Use workload management principles to plan, organise and prioritise own tasks, and manage time effectively.
  • Use accounting information to add value to the organisation through use of data visualisations, analysis and interpretation, and communicate financial information in a way that facilitates understanding for non-finance stakeholders.
  • Communicate accounting information through a variety of media to enable key stakeholders to understand what is required, considering the risks and benefits to the organisation of social media and other digital applications.
  • Build and maintain collaborative, professional relationships with internal and external stakeholders to deliver accounting tasks, recognising the importance of equality, diversity and inclusion.

Training schedule

  • Completion of the AAT qualification, starting with level 3 before moving on to complete level 4
  • Studies will be completed via live on-line sessions 
  • Course attendance is typically one day a week.

English (grade C)

Share if you have other relevant qualifications and industry experience. The apprenticeship can be adjusted to reflect what you already know.

Other requirements

The role will include regular travel to client sites and holding a full UK driving licence and having access to a vehicle would be advantageous.

After this apprenticeship

It is expected that on full completion of the AAT qualification (being completion of levels 3 and 4) apprentices move on to study the ACA qualification.  

Promotions and salary increases will be made during the course of completing the full AAT qualification, in line with the individual displaying the appropriate level of knowledge, skills and behaviours relevant to the role.
