What you'll do at work

We are looking for an enthusiastic and motivated Warehouse Apprentice to join a busy Warehouse team. This is an exciting opportunity to gain hands-on experience in warehousing, third party logistics, pallet distribution and outsourced transportation while studying towards a Level 2 Warehouse Operative Apprenticeship.

You will be supported by experienced colleagues and mentors who will guide you through day-to-day operations in a fast-paced, family run business.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Using equipment to move products
  • Operating a warehouse management system for tracking Maintaining a safe and tidy work area
  • Adhering to environmental and security procedures
  • Goods handling: Receive, unload, store, pick, pack, and dispatch products efficiently and safely
  • Equipment operation: Safely use various equipment and vehicles to move, handle, and transport goods
  • IT and technology: Operate warehouse management systems, data capture devices, radio, and barcoding systems to process goods accurately
  • Packaging: Select, prepare, and use packaging materials that are appropriate, efficient, and minimise waste
  • Maintaining general housekeeping duties, including cleanliness and tidiness in compliance with Health & Safety guidelines
  • Stock management: Support stock-taking activities and follow procedures for managing stock and resources
  • Compliance: Comply with all health, safety, security, and environmental regulations, including GDPR and cyber security protocols
  • Communication: Engage with customers in a courteous, professional, and knowledgeable manner and communicate effectively with colleagues and managers

Program structure

  • Duration: The apprenticeship lasts 15 months, and is full time
  • Training: At least six hours per week is spent on off-the-job training
  • Assessment: The program is assessed through observations, work-based evidence, and discussions with your manager
  • End-point assessment: At the end of the program, you will need to demonstrate that you have acquired the necessary knowledge, skills, and behaviours

P F Whitehead Transport Services Ltd is a family run company, started by Peter Whitehead in 1963 with a single van. By the end of the decade, we had grown to thirty. Now in the second generation and based in the South London / Croydon borders. Owning a 5-acre site within excess of 250,000 square feet of internal storage and have the capacity to store over 20,000 pallets.
