Summary

A unique family-run business are looking to take on a General Accounts Apprentice to work within their team. As part of your position, you will support the finance team with day-to-day accounting tasks, continually developing your skills, knowledge, and experience through the completion of your apprenticeship.

Wage

£13,741 to £22,222.20, depending on your age

Work

Most of your apprenticeship is spent working. You’ll learn on the job by getting hands-on experience.

What you'll do at work

  • Assist with processing high volumes of supplier invoices (fuel, vehicle maintenance, logistic services), and maintaining accurate purchase and sales ledgers
  • Support in the preparation of monthly management accounts
  • Assist to produce weekly and monthly financial reports, including cash flow updates
  • Reconcile bank statements and track incoming/outgoing payments
  • Support with production of VAT returns and other regulatory submissions
  • Assist in raising customer invoices
  • Liaise with internal departments and external customers/suppliers to resolve invoice queries
  • Maintain accurate, organised, and up-to-date financial records for audit and compliance purposes
  • Answer incoming telephone calls, take messages and re-direct calls
  • Communicate in a clear, polite and concise manner with colleagues/customers in all departments as required by the demands of the business
  • Provide general administrative support to the finance team
  • Continually develop skills, knowledge, and experience, through completion of the apprenticeship, as directed by the Finance Manager, to a satisfactory level and timescales, in accordance with Company requirements
  • To complete any other reasonable duties as instructed by the management team

  • Use the organisation’s standard tools and processes to examine data to identify transactional issues such as, reconciliations and inconsistencies between invoices.
  • Recognise and rectify routine errors, escalating as necessary.
  • Plan and review accounting and finance tasks.
  • Communicate with stakeholders to deliver accurate and timely results, avoiding jargon, using language tailored to the audience and different media methods with an appreciation of the risks and benefits to the business of social media and other digital applications.
  • Use finance and accounting software packages to accurately input and manage data to contribute to routine accounting tasks.
  • Handle data and digital technology in line with cyber and data security requirements, using data securely and safely, including backing up data.

Essential qualifications

GCSE in:

  • English (grade 5)
  • Maths (grade 5)

Share if you have other relevant qualifications and industry experience. The apprenticeship can be adjusted to reflect what you already know.

Other requirements

To be successful in this role, you will need a keen interest in accounting and finance administration and a commitment to the apprenticeship. You will also need a minimum of 5 GCSEs at level 5 or above.
