Summary

A fantastic apprenticeship opportunity to join a family business in a varied and busy customer facing technical job role with full training and development. We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Junior Estimator Apprentice to join our team.

Wage

£14,722.50 for your first year, then could increase depending on your age

Work

Most of your apprenticeship is spent working. You’ll learn on the job by getting hands-on experience.

What you'll do at work

This role is vital in evaluating project costs and delivering accurate estimates across a variety of assignments. The successful candidate will support cost control and effective budgeting, contributing to the overall success of our projects. This position requires strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and the ability to collaborate effectively with colleagues and clients.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with senior management and project teams to ensure all ad-hoc paperwork and administrative tasks are completed accurately and efficiently.
  • Take a methodical approach to handling enquiries, ensuring all pre-sales documentation is properly logged, filed, reviewed, and entered into the system within required deadlines.
  • Learn to source supplier quotations, lead times, payment terms, and technical specifications for procured items in a timely manner.
  • Assist in compiling tailored initial quotations that meet project and client needs, demonstrating a proactive, solution-focused attitude. Work alongside senior team members to develop alternative design proposals when required.
  • Provide ongoing support to clients and Project Managers by estimating extras, additions, variations, and future works.
  • Engage with long-term development opportunities as the company grows, with potential for career progression for the right candidate.

 

Essential Experience:

  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and other software applications.

 

Desirable Experience:

  • Previous experience in an office or customer service role.
  • Prior experience as a Junior Estimator or in a similar role within the construction or manufacturing industry (preferred but not essential).
  • Understanding of cost control principles and practices.
  • Excellent analytical skills and a high level of accuracy.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present complex information clearly.
  • A collaborative team player who is also self-motivated and able to work independently.

What you'll learn

Course contents
  • Apply and integrate appropriate mathematical and technical knowledge in the completion of built environment site and/or office processes to contribute to the coordination of construction projects.
  • Comply with health and safety regulations and procedures. Identify and document risks and hazards. Apply statutory and company environmental and safe working practices. Produce construction project risk assessment and method statements.
  • Communicate verbally to internal and external stakeholders using a range of techniques in line with company policies.
  • Interpret and abstract contract documentation to develop site solutions.
  • Apply digital construction processes to produce resource lists from tender and contract documentation.
  • The use of project tendering, measurement and costing systems to assist with the planning of schedules of work and to provide early warning of problems for all contract phases on site.
  • Plan, carry out and manage own work in line with management requirements, assessing tasks, scheduling work, achieving deadlines, reviewing performance and keeping records of work undertaken.
  • Apply sustainable principles and low carbon processes in order to implement site environmental solutions.
  • Use information technology. For example, for document creation, communication, and information management. Comply with GDPR and cyber security.
  • Plan and undertake continued professional development (CPD) to maintain and enhance competence in their own area of practice.
  • Communicate in written form to internal and external stakeholders using a range of techniques and reporting mechanisms in line with company policies, using construction and built environment terminology.

Training schedule

You will attend college one day per week, term time only, at our Somer Valley Campus in Radstock.
