Wage

£14,722.50 to £23,809.50, depending on your age

National Minimum Wage dependant on age. Salary will increase annually and a discretionary Christmas bonus is also paid if sales targets are hit.

Work

Most of your apprenticeship is spent working. You’ll learn on the job by getting hands-on experience.

What you'll do at work

This is a very varied role and involves:

  • Working on food processing equipment (pressure cooking vessels, mixers, pastry laminators, pie machines, ovens, automated packing lines etc).
  • The maintenance team are also responsible for the building fabric, including facilities and site services (refrigeration, steam boilers, air compressors, hot and cold-water systems). Engineers carry out repairs (reactive works) and preventive maintenance. 
  • Involvement with the installation of new equipment and project improvement work. This includes modifications to optimise performance, improve efficiency and methods of operation, increase equipment reliability and reduce downtime.

  • Primarily based with the employer.
  • Apprentices attend Loughborough College 1 day per week, during term time, where they study set units that map directly into the apprenticeship.
  • A trainer/assessor will arrange visits to the workplace.

Essential qualifications

GCSE in:

5 GCSE's including Maths, English and Science (grade C/4 or above)
