What you will do in your working day

The apprenticeship is a 3-year course comprising of approximately 20% study and 80% workplace activity. You will apply your interpretation and understanding of core measurement principles and practices and apply these within a production or trials environment. You will identify measurement needs, plan and perform measurement tasks using tools, equipment, instrumentation and software programmes.

The training you will be getting

Level 3 Metrology technician Apprenticeship Standard, which meets the requirements of Registered Engineering Technician (EngTech) and Registered Science Technician (RSciTech). The apprentice will be eligible for registration of EngTech and/or RSciTech on completion of the Apprenticeship. Upon receipt of the apprenticeship certificate, individuals are eligible to apply for RSciTech through a shortened application route. Individuals also need to be a member of a professional body that is licensed by the Science Council to be awarded this status. Further information is on the Science Council’s website.

Things to consider

Must be age 18 or above as of 1st September 2024, due to age restrictions for security clearance to allow access to relevant facilities.
