What will the apprentice be doing?

Welders will be required to use different types of welding, these will include:

  • TIG (Tungsten Inert Gas)
  • MMA (Manual Metal Arc)
  • MIG (Metal Inert Gas)

The apprentice will be assigned a dedicated mentor, an experienced welder, to provide support and supervision on-site and in the workshop.

Duties will include:

  • Welding and fabrication of carbon pipe
  • Welding and fabrication of carbon plate
  • Welding and fabrication of stainless-steel pipe
  • Welding and fabrication of stainless-steel plate
  • Performing weld repairs on-site and in the workshop
  • Working with pipefitters and clients to complete a variety of tasks

What training will the apprentice take and what qualification will the apprentice get at the end?

Apprentice will attain General Welder (Arc Processes) Level 2 apprenticeship qualification.

Day release at New City College Rainham Campus (RM13 8GP).

What is the expected career progression after this apprenticeship?

Gain experience in other types of welding processes (eg.TIG) through working closely with other experienced welders on site. Gain experience and other certification relevant to the construction industry. Gain a good understanding of pipe fitting and fabrication.

Things to consider

Location is based on site at Tate & Lyle in Silvertown, site is near London City Airport, ability to travel to site is a must. This role requires a 7am start.
