What will the apprentice be doing?
You will be trained to operate all machinery both conventional and CNC throughout your apprenticeship and your main duties will include:
- Milling.
- Turning.
- Bench fitting.
- Set & run CNC.
- Daily/monthly maintenance requirements of machines.
- Solving production/process problems.
- Monitor CNC machines & work in progress.
- Understanding mechanical drawing.
- Spark and wire erosion.
- In progress quality assurance including first off inspection.
- Operating & using quality/inspection equipment.
- Health and safety training.
What training will the apprentice take and what qualification will the apprentice get at the end?
You will receive on the job training and guidance from your employer and will also attend Sandwell College 1 day per week to achieve your Level 3 Engineering Technician qualifications.
After a period of foundation skills and technical knowledge development all apprentices will be required to achieve the following qualifications:
- Level 2 Diploma in Advanced Manufacturing Engineering (Foundation Competence).
- Level 2 Diploma in Machining (Foundation Knowledge).
- Level 3 Diploma in Advanced Manufacturing Engineering (Development Competence) - Machining.
- Level 3 Diploma in Machining (Development Knowledge)
Apprentices without Level 2 English and maths will need to achieve this level prior to taking end point assessment.
