What will the apprentice be doing?

The lucky candidate will get to work alongside the garden team to ensure the estate is kept looking its best, all year round.  Your main responsibilities will include:

  • Strimming
  • Weeding
  • Maintaining lawns and flower beds
  • Fencing
  • Chainsaw work
  • Pruning and painting

What training will the apprentice take and what qualification will the apprentice get at the end?

You will be working towards a Level 2 Horticulture and Landscape Operative Apprenticeship Standard.

You will receive on and off the job training and support from an assessor and an apprenticeship advisor.

You will be required to attend Bicton College on a block release basis as part of the apprenticeship training.

The following qualifications will be required prior to taking the end point assessment:

Emergency first aid: Level 3 award in emergency first aid at work
Pesticides: Level 2 Principles of Safe Handling and Application of Pesticides Guidance OR Level 2 Award in the Safe Use of Pesticides

What is the expected career progression after this apprenticeship?

It is hoped that the successful applicant, on completion of the apprenticeship will continue within the garden team and have the opportunity to progress towards the roles of supervisor and head of department in time.
