What will the apprentice be doing?

  • You will be trained on how to use and maintain power tools and eventually powdered woodwork machinery safely in the manufacture of joinery items
  • Training will also be given on CAD software
  • Assembling frames
  • Mortising
  • Measuring 
  • Stock control 
  • Assisting qualified staff with their duties 
  • Keeping a safe working environment 
  • Meeting customers 
  • Going to sites to fit joinery (customers' homes) 
  • Prepping joinery for a variety of finishes and applying them 

What training will the apprentice take and what qualification will the apprentice get at the end?

Carpentry & Joinery Level 2 Apprenticeship Standard:

  • You will spend 1 day per week in our college workshop at the Leek Campus, college transport is available
  • You will also be visited in your workplace by your college assessor mentor every 6 weeks
  • If you have not achieved GCSE maths & English at grade C/4 or above you will be required to sit Functional Skills qualifications as part of your apprenticeship. We offer a 6-week fast track program for apprentices, please contact the college if you would like more information about this
