What will the apprentice be doing?
As an apprentice on a day-to-day basis, you will be doing the following:
Planned Preventative Maintenance
Carry out basic functions at machinery maintenance intervals:
- Lubrication
- Drill bit replacement
- Cleanse moving parts
Develop Health & Safety attribute knowledge of all plant:
- Isolation switches and test
- Lock Out procedures
- Emergency stops and test
Machinery Calibration Checks & Addressing of failure:
- Calibration checks of measuring devices
- Build rapport & relationships with machinery manufacturers
- Build rapport & relationships with 3rd party suppliers
Longer Term Goals
Whilst developing your training, you will be able to build your total understanding of all necessary electrical & mechanical needs of the business, incorporating both building fixed facilities:
- Build annual cyclical service schedules
- Develop PPM integration with the manufacturing team
Develop strategy for effective:
- Cost reduction
- Downtime reduction
- Operator safety & point of use training
What training will the apprentice take and what qualification will the apprentice get at the end?
The apprenticeship consists of:
- Advanced Standard Apprenticeship - Maintenance & Operations Engineering Technician
- Functional Skills in English and Maths (Level 1/2) where applicable
All aspects of your training will be delivered on-site with your employer, and you will have regular site visits every six to eight weeks from your designated assessor, who will monitor your progress throughout your apprenticeship programme.
You will achieve a qualification in Maintenance & Operations Engineering Technician Level 3 Standard.
What is the expected career progression after this apprenticeship?
Become a full-time member of the Engineering team, leading by example and setting the required standards, ultimately leading you towards an Engineering Management position.
