What will the apprentice be doing?

The Early Years Practitioner is a key member of the team and is responsible for delivering high quality care and education for all children based on their individual needs and interests. You will work flexibly as part of the larger team, assisting and supporting colleagues wherever required, in order to ensure the smooth running of the nursery. This will include:

  • Setting activities which take into account children’s abilities, interests, language and cultural backgrounds
  • Embracing, understanding and promoting the nursery and the role you play as part of the team which provides high levels of care and education
  • Promoting positive relationships in the early years setting
  • Carrying out all related responsibilities as a key person such as building relationships with a small group of children and their families
  • Setting appropriate targets each week for key children which will form part of the planning
  • Reinforcing company policies and procedures at all times and deal with any breaches swiftly and in an appropriate manner
  • Having an excellent understanding and  a working knowledge of all aspects of Health and Safety and the Risks Assessments that are in place
  • Ensuring all safeguarding procedures are followed in line with local authority and company procedures
  • Working in partnership to ensure standards are continually being met in line with Ofsted requirements and the EYFS
  • Reflecting on daily practice and identifying areas for continual improvement
  • Promoting equality and diversity within the nursery, challenging any behaviour which does not support our inclusive practice and equal opportunity policy
  • Being flexible within your working practice and be prepared to help if needed
  • Attending staff meetings and training sessions necessary for continuing professional development
  • Maintaining staff ratios in accordance with statutory regulations

What training will the apprentice take and what qualification will the apprentice get at the end?

  • Apprentices will be working towards the L2 Early Years Practitioner Standard
  • The apprentice will be supported via an agreed training plan which will be discussed at enrolment
  • The apprentice will receive monthy workplace or virtual visits with a dedicated assessor 
  • There is no requirement for the selected apprentice to attend college unless they require the successful completion of Functional Skills Maths and English

What is the expected career progression after this apprenticeship?

  • A full-time position could be offered on completion of the apprenticeship

Things to consider

This role requires you to play alongside the children. It includes bending and lifting, nappy changing and day to day care of children. No day is ever the same and every day is an adventure! An enhanced DBS check is required as part of the nursery policy.

We are a very busy day nursery caring for children from 3 months to 4 years 11 months. The nursery has been open since 2013 and continues to grow and flourish. Our setting is across 3 floors and has 5 base rooms. Our ethos is, the child is the centre of our practice. All children have an equal chance to success, regardless of their ability, receiving the same quality of care and teaching.
