What will the apprentice be doing?

  • To assist in the provision of high-quality, customer-focused services to all Barbican and Community Library users
  • To assist with the day-to-day running of the Artizan Street digital creative Makerspace
  • Assist Makerspace users with using the equipment provided, including ensure the safe use of all equipment
  • Carrying out a range of general library duties including: meeting and greeting customers; issuing, discharging and renewing items; taking monies as required; enrolling new members; shelving returned items; shelf tidying; and administrative work including data inputting
  • Carrying out routine stock processing, repairs and withdrawals
  • Learn how to answer routine enquiries (in person, by email and telephone) as required, referring on to more senior staff as appropriate

What training will the apprentice take and what qualification will the apprentice get at the end?

Your apprenticeship will last for 17 months, and you will spend one day per week in training towards a Level 2 Customer Service qualification whilst also developing practical experience in the workplace. You will be required to complete Functional Skills unless exempt. 

This apprenticeship role is based at Artizan Street Library & Community Centre, London E1 7AF.

What is the expected career progression after this apprenticeship?

The City Corporation will work to support apprentices who successfully complete their qualifications on their chosen career pathway, and offer support of additional training and shadowing opportunities where required.
