What will the apprentice be doing?
The grading structure for this role allows for the candidate to be multi skilled across traditional electrical, electronic and mechanical disciplines.
The required skills and knowledge are detailed over the following three pages, segregated into general, electrical and mechanical skill sets. Training will be provided to develop these skills:
- Electrical - installation, read and understand electrical drawings
- Electrical - installation, produce electrical drawings of installation
- Electrical – installation, assess the safety of systems before starting work
- Electrical – installation, assess compatibility of electrical installation with environment and other services
- Electrical – installation, design electrical installation
- Electrical – installation, read and follow manufacturer’s instructions
- Electrical – installation, Install distribution boards and consumer units
- Electrical – installation, commission an electrical installation
- Electrical – installation, correctly route cables and accessories
- Complete a schedule of test results
- Electrical Installation - testing and inspection, complete a schedule of inspections
- Electrical – installation, terminate cables to a range of devices, machine panels, contactors, PCB etc.
- Electrical – installation, terminate cables in main switch (subs)
- Electrical installation - testing and inspection to ensure safety of themselves and other
What training will the apprentice take and what qualification will the apprentice get at the end?
After a period of foundation skills and technical knowledge development all apprentices will be required to achieve the following qualifications:
- Level 2 Diploma in Advanced Manufacturing Engineering (Foundation Competence)
After a further period of skills and technical knowledge development all apprentices will be required to achieve the following qualifications:
Level 3 Diploma in Advanced Manufacturing Engineering (Development Competence) – Mechatronics Maintenance Technician
Plus one of the following:
- Level 3 Diploma in Engineering Technology (QCF) – for starts up to June 2017 only
- Level 3 Extended Diploma in Engineering Technologies (QCF) - for starts up to June 2017 only
- Level 3 Diploma or Extended Diploma in Advanced Manufacturing Engineering (Development Knowledge) – for all starts from 1st July 2017
You will study on a Level 3 Engineering Technician standard on a Mechatronics Maintenance Technician Engineering pathway. On completion of this, you will gain a qualification in Engineering at Advanced Level 3 standard.
During the first year of the apprenticeship, your learning will take place at the University of Sheffield’s AMRC Training Centre based at Catcliffe, Rotherham, for an initial block of study on a full-time basis. After this, you will attend the Training Centre for one day a week for knowledge study.
