What will the apprentice be doing?

The aim of this role is to become a fully functioning member of the kitchen team.

You will prepare, cook and present all dishes to the required standard, as well as assisting the Head Chef in the daily kitchen duties.

Your duties and responsibilities will include:

  • Food preparation
  • Cooking menu items
  • Health and safety practices
  • Temperature checks
  • Portion control
  • Cleaning the areas
  • Stock rotation
  • Teamwork
  • Maintaining a clean, tidy and safe working environment at all times
  • Ensuring good communication channels within the team
  • Adhering to personal appearance standards at all times
  • Any other duties considered relevant to the role, as requested by the wider team

What training will the apprentice take and what qualification will the apprentice get at the end?

You will be working towards a Level 2 Commis Chef Apprenticeship standard.

You will receive on and off the job training and support from an assessor and an apprenticeship advisor.

You will be required to attend Cornwall College Camborne on a weekly basis as part of the apprenticeship training.

What is the expected career progression after this apprenticeship?

There may be an opportunity for a permanent position upon successful completion of the apprenticeship.

Things to consider

The employer is supportive and is extremely committed to training. Pay is to be further reviewed at the 3 month point. A kitchen is a hot and fast-paced environment all year round. You must ensure you have suitable travel arrangements in place to get to work and to attend college. You will work on a rota basis to include evenings and weekends.
