Leather Craftsperson Apprentice DENMONS SERVICES

This is an exciting and dynamic leather craftsperson role for an enthusiastic candidate. You will be based in our high street store where all equipment and materials are also based. Candidates will have the opportunity to develop various leather crafting skills within a repair and reconstruct context around shoes, bags and other leather items.

What will the apprentice be doing?

Leather craftsperson apprentice will be working on leather repairs in the context of shoes and bags.

Main duties include:-


·        Leather cutting/trimming

·        Leather skiving and edging

·        Leather stitching and sticking/bonding

·        Leather patching

·        Reconstruction of part of leather product

·        Leather colouring/dye

·        Creativity and craft opportunities to achieve best repair

·        Supervised equipment and machinery operation (with training)

·        Customer service

·        Till and computer operation

What training will the apprentice take and what qualification will the apprentice get at the end?

Training covered:

You will be working towards the Level 2 Leather Craftsperson Standard.  The Standard's Knowledge, Skills and Behaviours will be delivered within the workplace with an Assessor visiting and liaising with you on a regular basis.  You will have an e-portfolio to upload your evidence to which will show your progress to achievement.

You may have to undertake Functional Skills at level 2 in Maths and English if you do not have the required exemptions.  The delivery for this will be online sessions with the exam being held at the college campus.

Things to consider

Some areas to consider: • Excellent attention to detail – this is the most important skill. Everything else can be taught. • Helpful to have some experience working with various materials, but not essential. • An interest in creating and making the best product you can. • Hands-on creativity with a general comfort using all types of machine and hand tools
