What will the apprentice be doing?
The duties and responsibilities involved in this role include:
- Support child initiated and adult led activities based around the needs and interests of each individual child.
- Contribute to the planning and organise activities and children's individual experiences which will support and extend the children’s learning in line with the EYFS framework.
- Support children’s learning through planned, purposeful play opportunities and educational programmes and working as part of a team to ensure each child feels safe and secure.
- Use play to support children to understand and encourage healthy life choices.
- Communicate and engage with children to support their learning and development.
- Support the wellbeing of all children including those with additional needs and disabilities.
- Identify issues of safeguarding and child protection, ensuring that the welfare and health and safety of children is promoted and safeguarded and to report any child protection concerns to the Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL).
- Support the observation and assessment of each child and contribute to their learning experiences and assist with the care needs of the individual child such as teeth, skin, hair, feeding, changing nappies and toileting under direction of a more senior member of the team.
- Working in partnerships with other colleagues, parents and/or carers or other professionals, with support from a more senior member of the team, to meet the individual needs of each child.
- Support the collection of accurate and up-to-date records which identify children’s individual needs, abilities and progress and use these as a basis for future planning.
- Work in partnership with other colleagues, parents and/or carers or other professionals to meet the individual needs of each child in line with school policies and procedures.
- Use knowledge of child development to work with parents and carers to improve children outcomes and wellbeing, including those with disabilities and additional needs.
General:
- Work within policies and procedures at all times and support staff to adhere to them.
- Attend meetings as required.
- Keep records as required.
- Maintain positive working relationships with relevant external professionals.
- Support and develop an environment which is inclusive for all and recognises and encourages diversity.
- Represent the setting professionally at all times, maintaining the settings integrity and being open to both giving and receiving feedback.
- Undertake any other duties as reasonably directed by line manager or SLT.
- Complete apprenticeship assignments and coursework to agreed deadlines.

Level 2 Early Years Practitioner apprenticeship standard, which includes:
- Level 2 Technical Certificate
- Level 1/2 Functional Skills in English, maths, and ICT (if required)
- Employee Rights and Responsibilities (ERR)
- Personal Learning and Thinking Skills (PLTS)
- End-Point Assessment (EPA)
