What will the apprentice be doing?
Working as an Apprentice Carpenter and Joiner (Architectural Pathway) you will:
- Work individually and as part of a team to respond to customer’s requests effectively and efficiently.
- Assist and work alongside our team of qualified carpenters to produce items such as doors, windows, fences and gates which are installed in residents’ homes by site carpenters.
- With the guidance of mentors use problem-solving skills to make decisions on best way to carry repairs.
- Under the guidance of mentors, ensure that the work is carried out in accordance with council policies and procedures and good housekeeping is maintained
- Develop strong professional relationships with your own team and with others we work alongside and with residents.
What training will the apprentice take and what qualification will the apprentice get at the end?
Within your role you will:
- Complete a Level 2, and subject to satisfactory completion, a Level 3 Carpentry and Joinery apprenticeship (Architectural pathway), funded by the Council. This will be a blended learning approach which will include self-study and going to college whilst completing tasks in the workplace. Time will be given to you to support your development
- Join the apprenticeship personal and professional development programme
What is the expected career progression after this apprenticeship?
After you have successfully completed your apprenticeship you will have gained valuable workplace experience and attained a professional qualification which will improve your chances of finding work either within the Council or with another employer or help you move on to a higher level apprenticeship elsewhere. You will have networked across the Council and be aware of the internal job market during your time with us and we will provide support on your approach to the wider job market as part of your development programme.
