Work

Most of your apprenticeship is spent working. You’ll learn on the job by getting hands-on experience.

What you'll do at work

Over 6 years, you will combine 4 days a week of practical work in a rotation of our legal teams with 1 dedicated study day to complete your Law degree (LLB) and prepare for the Solicitors Qualifying Exam (SQE).

Your academic learning will be delivered in conjunction with the University of Law, and you will be supported throughout by experienced mentors, supervisors and colleagues who are committed to your development.

This is a full-time, permanent role starting in September 2027.

As a Solicitor Apprentice at Higgs LLP, you will work alongside experienced colleagues, gradually building your knowledge, skills and responsibilities.

Your day-to-day tasks may include:

  • Supporting legal teams with a range of client matters.
  • Preparing, organising and maintaining legal documents and client files.
  • Conducting legal research to support ongoing cases and transactions.
  • Drafting correspondence and assisting with legal documentation.
Communicating with colleagues and clients in a professional manner.
  • Attending team meetings and observing client meetings where appropriate.
  • Managing administrative tasks and keeping information accurate and up to date.

During your first 4 years, you will combine university study with practical experience across our legal and business support teams. This will help you build a strong understanding of how a law firm operates, develop your professional skills and work towards your law degree.

As you progress into your final 2 years, you will join our trainee solicitors on our training contract programme. You will complete 4 six-month rotations, known as 'seats', across different legal departments, gaining experience in a range of legal specialisms.

This training is aligned with the Solicitors Regulation Authority's (SRA) Statement of Solicitor Competence and will help you develop the knowledge, skills and professional behaviours expected of a qualified solicitor.
