Work
Most of your apprenticeship is spent working. You’ll learn on the job by getting hands-on experience.
What you'll do at work
- Front-End Development & User Experience: Learn to build visually appealing, accessible and user-friendly interfaces using JavaScript, HTML and CSS. Work with colleagues and customers to understand requirements and contribute to design briefs, wireframes and mock-ups using tools such as Figma, ensuring applications deliver a positive user experience.
- Back-End Integration & Emerging Technologies: Learn how front-end applications connect with back-end services, including Python-based solutions and AWS infrastructure, to create functional, scalable software. Explore AI tools and agentic software engineering to improve user experiences, automate tasks and enhance customer service solutions.
- Version Control & Team Collaboration: Use Git to manage code, contribute to projects and collaborate with developers through code reviews and feedback. Take part in daily team check-ins, share progress, manage priorities and communicate challenges or blockers promptly.
- Testing, Quality Assurance & Secure Development: Support unit and integration testing, identify bugs and help ensure applications work reliably across different scenarios. Follow coding standards and secure-development policies, complete security training and raise potential vulnerabilities or security concerns with the appropriate team members.
- Issue Management, Documentation & Software Maintenance: Record bugs and issues, update project briefs and contribute to technical documentation, reusable components, templates and internal knowledge. Help maintain accessible, reliable and supportable applications through troubleshooting, monitoring, release processes and effective handovers.
- Apprenticeship Development & Progression: Work with the Engineering Manager and apprenticeship provider to follow your development plan, act on feedback, achieve competency milestones and maintain the evidence portfolio required to complete your Level 4 qualification.
