Work

Most of your apprenticeship is spent working. You’ll learn on the job by getting hands-on experience.

What you'll do at work

As a Teaching Assistant Apprentice, you will:

  • Support pupils to engage in lessons, activities and the wider school day
  • Work with individual pupils and small groups under the direction of the class teacher
  • Support pupils with communication, social interaction, independence and life skills
  • Help children and young people access a highly personalised curriculum and achieve their individual goals
  • Prepare learning resources and contribute to maintaining an organised and stimulating learning environment
  • Support pupils with additional communication, sensory and behavioural needs using agreed strategies
  • Support pupils with communication, sensory needs, behaviour, mobility, personal care, eating and drinking where required
  • Observe pupils' progress and contribute to records and feedback for the class team
  • Work collaboratively with teachers, teaching assistants, therapists and other professionals
  • Build positive and professional relationships with pupils, colleagues and families
  • Follow safeguarding, health and safety, confidentiality and data protection procedures at all times
  • Participate fully in training, supervision and apprenticeship learning activities

  • Apply methods of formative assessment.
  • Use up to date technology safely, to support learning.
  • Encourage safe use of technology by learners.
  • Adapt teaching strategies to support all learners (for example, scaffolding, open questioning).
  • Identify and respond to pastoral and academic behaviours in learners.
  • Provide feedback to learners.

Training schedule

Each apprentice will have their own dedicated tutor who will conduct regular remote tutorials and reviews, providing continuous support throughout the apprenticeship programme.

Requirements

Desirable qualifications

GCSE in:

  • English (grade A*-C/9-4 or Level 2 equivalent)
  • Maths (grade A*-C/9-4 or Level 2 equivalent)

Share if you have other relevant qualifications and industry experience. The apprenticeship can be adjusted to reflect what you already know.
