Work

Most of your apprenticeship is spent working. You’ll learn on the job by getting hands-on experience.

What you'll do at work

The apprentice will work alongside our estimating, contract management team and gain experience across both the tendering and construction phases of our projects. Duties will include:

  • Assisting with the pricing and preparation of tenders, including measuring quantities from construction drawings and specifications.
  • Assisting Contract Managers with the administration and day to day management of live construction projects.
  • Helping to prepare and maintain project documentation, including health and safety information, site records and other contract documentation.
  • Assisting with the preparation and collation of O&M Manuals for completed projects.
  • Communicating with subcontractors and suppliers and becoming involved in the day to day running of a busy construction company.

What you'll learn

Course contents
  • Health and Safety: Apply health and safety issues to all activities.
  • Sustainability: Demonstrate application of the principles of sustainability.
  • Construction Technology: Assist in the implementation of the most appropriate solutions for construction projects
  • Contracts: Be able to apply different types of contracts to different situations.
  • Procurement: Assist in the selection of and negotiation with specialist contractors for a construction project.
  • Cost control: Assist in the measurement and costing of construction works during a project.
  • Financial reporting: Assist in the preparation of financial reports, cash flow and cost forecasts for a construction project.
  • Administration: Assist in the collection, collation and storage of relevant data and its analysis.

Training schedule

Day release at Anglia Ruskin University alongside practical on the job training and mentoring from experienced members of the Emerson Willis team.

More training information

The training will be term-time day release sessions at Anglia Ruskin University's Chelmsford campus, and is delivered over two years, plus up to six months for the End Point Assessment.

Essential qualifications

GCSE in:

Maths and English (grade 4/C or above)

A Level in:

3 A Levels or Equivalent Qualification (grade 112 UCAS Points)
