Join Em's Stars as an Early Years Apprentice and earn while you learn. You'll gain hands-on experience supporting children's learning and development, work alongside experienced practitioners, and achieve a nationally recognised qualification in a supportive and friendly setting.

£6,656 for your first year, then could increase depending on your age

The apprenticeship wage will be reviewed after 12 months and will increase to at least the National Minimum Wage, subject to satisfactory performance and progress within the role.

Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, with some flexibility to meet the needs of the setting. Total of 16 hours per week. Working hours will be discussed and agreed with the successful candidate and may vary slightly depending on the needs of the nursery.

Work

Most of your apprenticeship is spent working. You’ll learn on the job by getting hands-on experience.

What you'll do at work

  • Supporting children's learning and development through play-based activities and everyday routines
  • Assisting with planning and preparing engaging activities that promote children's development
  • Creating a safe, stimulating, and inclusive environment for all children
  • Supporting children's personal care, mealtimes, and independence skills
  • Observing children's progress and contributing to learning and development records
  • Building positive relationships with children, parents, carers, and colleagues
  • Setting up and tidying away activities, resources, and learning environments
  • Following safeguarding, health and safety, and nursery policies and procedures at all times
  • Supporting children with outdoor play, creative activities, and group learning experiences
  • Working towards the Level 3 Early Years Educator standard

What you'll learn

Course contents
  • Recognise when a child or a colleague is in danger or at risk of abuse and act to protect them in line with safeguarding policy and procedure.
  • Apply legislation, policy and procedure to protect the health, safety and wellbeing of children in the setting (for example, food safety, diets, starting solid food, allergies, COSHH, and accidents, injuries, and emergencies).
  • Apply the principles of risk assessment and risk management within documentation and practice.
  • Teach children to develop skills to manage risk and maintain their own and others safety.
  • Use a range of communication methods, including technology, with other professionals to meet the individual needs of the child.
  • Develop and maintain effective professional, collaborative relationships with others involved in the education and care of the child.
  • Undertake the role and responsibilities of key person.
  • Recognise and apply theories of attachment to develop effective relationships with children.
  • Provide sensitive and respectful personal care for children from birth to 5 years.
  • Advocate for all children’s needs, including children which require SEND or EAL support.
  • Promote and facilitate children’s interpersonal communication to develop their social interactions and relationships.
  • Support children to develop a positive sense of their own identity and culture.
  • Support children to understand and respond to their emotions and make considered choices about their behaviours.
  • Assess the responsiveness of the environment for effective child-centred experiences in line with curriculum requirements.

Training schedule

  • Early Years Educator Level 3
  • Training will include paediatric first aid qualification

Training will be delivered through a combination of workplace learning and online sessions with Best Practice Network. Apprentices will receive regular support from a dedicated trainer, including scheduled reviews, coaching sessions, and off-the-job training throughout the programme. Most training will take place in the workplace, with online learning completed during working hours. The training schedule will be agreed with the successful applicant and training provider.

More training information

Training will be provided by Best Practice Network, a specialist apprenticeship training provider with extensive experience delivering Early Years programmes. The apprenticeship is structured around a blend of workplace learning, online learning, and regular coaching sessions with a dedicated trainer. Apprentices will receive ongoing support throughout their programme, including progress reviews and one-to-one guidance to help them successfully complete their apprenticeship.

Essential qualifications

GCSE in:

  • English (grade 4/C)
  • Maths (grade 4/C)
