Summary

As a teaching assistant apprentice you will support teaching staff in the classroom and be involved in the development, implementation and evaluation of pupils’ individual progress. You may also support individual children in class, and work with small groups of children within or outside the classroom.

£19,202 a year

Work

Most of your apprenticeship is spent working. You’ll learn on the job by getting hands-on experience.

What you'll do at work

Under the direction of the class teacher, you will play an important role in supporting pupils' learning and development. Working closely with children of all abilities, including those with additional needs, you will help them access a broad, balanced and engaging curriculum, make good progress, and thrive within a positive, inclusive and well-organised learning environment.

Your work will include:

  • Implementing strategies to support pupils such as giving further explanations, adapting work, prompting or encouraging concentration and participation
  • Assisting with the assessment and recording of pupil progress
  • Delivering learning activities to groups and individual pupils, including those with EHCPs
  • Organising materials and resources for lessons
  • Promoting inclusive education and integration and helping in the development of relationships by encouraging appropriate interaction between pupils
  • Supporting the class teacher in managing behaviour and promoting good behaviour around the school
  • Liaising with the class teacher and school leaders about individual children’s learning
  • Undertaking playground duties as part of a rota
  • Attending training and meetings
  • Complying with the procedures relating to child protection, health, safety and security, confidentiality and reporting concerns to an appropriate person
  • Undertaking any other duties reasonably required by the class teacher or Head teacher

  • Provide feedback to learners.

Training schedule

The apprentice will have an assigned Educator from Heart of England Training who they will meet with regularly via Teams.
