Summary

The Social Media & Marketing Apprentice will support IMO Charity’s social media, marketing and communications. They will create engaging content, promote programmes and events, develop marketing materials, manage social channels and support campaigns, while gaining practical experience and skills for a career in digital marketing.

Wage

£15,600 for your first year, then could increase depending on your age

Work

Most of your apprenticeship is spent working. You’ll learn on the job by getting hands-on experience.

What you'll do at work

1. Social Media

  • Support the day-to-day management of IMO Charity's social media channels.
  • Create and schedule engaging content across platforms including Instagram, Facebook and LinkedIn.
  • Develop social media content calendars.
  • Write engaging captions and copy suitable for different audiences.
  • Create Instagram stories, Reels and other short-form content.
  • Monitor comments, messages and engagement.
  • Keep up to date with social media trends, algorithms and new platform features.
  • Help increase IMO Charity's online reach, engagement and following.
  • Identify opportunities to improve social media performance

2. Content Creation

  • Create graphics, posters, promotional materials and digital content.
    Use tools such as Canva and other relevant design software.
    Take photographs and videos at programmes, events and activities.
  • Edit short-form videos for social media.
  • Develop creative campaigns around IMO Charity's programmes and services.
  • Create content highlighting the impact and achievements of the charity.
  • Maintain an organised library of photographs, videos and marketing materials.

3. Marketing

  • Support the development and delivery of marketing campaigns.
  • Help promote IMO Charity's programmes, events, volunteering opportunities and fundraising activities.
  • Support the production of flyers, posters, presentations and other promotional materials.
  • Assist with email marketing and digital communications.
  • Support the development of promotional campaigns targeting different audiences.
  • Help identify new marketing opportunities and platforms.
  • Support the wider team with marketing requests.

4. Website & Digital Content

  • Support the updating of website content.
  • Assist with uploading news, programme information and events.
  • Help ensure website information is accurate and up to date.
    Support basic SEO and digital marketing activity.
  • Monitor website and digital engagement where appropriate.
  • Identify opportunities to improve the charity's online presence.

5. Campaigns & Events

  • Support the marketing of IMO Charity events and activities.
  • Attend events and programme sessions to capture photographs and video content.
  • Develop promotional campaigns for key charity initiatives.
  • Support awareness campaigns and relevant national/international days.
  • Work with programme teams to promote their activities.
  • Help create campaigns that increase participation and engagement.

6. Monitoring & Analytics

  • Monitor social media performance.
  • Track engagement, reach, impressions and follower growth.
  • Assist with monthly marketing reports.
  • Identify high-performing content.
  • Use data to suggest improvements to future campaigns.
  • Support the collection of marketing and communications data.

7. Team Working

  • Work closely with programme and project staff to understand their marketing needs.
  • Attend team meetings and contribute creative ideas.
  • Build positive working relationships across the organisation.
  • Communicate effectively with colleagues.
  • Support other areas of the organisation when required.
  • Represent IMO Charity professionally when attending external events.

What you'll learn

Course contents
  • Develop or interpret briefs for external or internal stakeholders and measure delivery in-line with the specification and agreed timelines
  • Plan and coordinate a marketing activity using marketing tactics to acquire and retain one or more customer segments using available resources.
  • Contribute to the generation of innovative and creative approaches across video, images, and other formats, both online and offline, to support campaign development.
  • Use research/survey software to gather audience insight and/or evaluation to support the project.
  • Use copywriting techniques to write persuasive text/copy to meet a communications objective ensuring it is in-line with organisational brand guidelines.
  • Build and implement multi-channel campaigns across a variety of platforms, either offline or digital media.
  • Proofread marketing copy ensuring it is accurate, persuasive and is on brand.
  • Use software to design and create marketing assets to meet the technical specification.
  • Contribute to the research of external suppliers to support recommendations and procurement of marketing goods and services.
  • Organise offline and digital assets ensuring they are co-ordinated and legally compliant.
  • Use a content management system to publish text, images, and video/animated content.
  • Create and maintain spreadsheets to support marketing activities such as project/budget planning and organisation of marketing assets.
  • Use technology and software packages to support day to day activities, e.g., stakeholder communications, development of briefs, data analysis, report writing, presentations and project management.
  • Identify and use data and technologies to achieve marketing objectives.
  • Monitor and amend campaigns to meet budget requirements including time and monetary costs.
  • Review campaigns regularly to ensure effectiveness, to optimise the results.
  • Measure and evaluate campaign delivery to identify areas for improvement.
  • Use data analysis tools to record, interpret and analyse customer or campaign data.

Training schedule

An apprenticeship includes regular training with a college or other training organisation. Off-the-job training will follow the time allocations outlined in the Occupational Standard.

GCSE in:

  • Maths (grade 3/L1 Functional Skills)
