Summary

We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Warehouse Operative to join our warehousing and manufacturing team. In this role, you will communicate with a wide range of people, including suppliers, customers, and colleagues across the business, helping to ensure the smooth and efficient operation of our warehouse activities.

Wage

£16,640 to £26,436.80, depending on your age

Work

Most of your apprenticeship is spent working. You’ll learn on the job by getting hands-on experience.

What you'll do at work

Candidates should be comfortable working within an active warehouse and production environment, where there may be varying noise levels and exposure to dust and general industrial conditions. The apprentice role will include shadowing the warehouse/ transport manager and, after training, deputising for some of their activities.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in supervising daily warehouse operations, including picking, stock, shipping and receiving activities, to ensure smooth workflow and adherence to safety standards
  • Support the implementation of process improvement initiatives aimed at increasing efficiency and reducing costs
  • Learn to operate warehouse management systems (WMS) and Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) software inventory tracking and order processing
  • Participate in inventory audits, cycle counts, and stock replenishment activities to maintain accurate stock levels
  • Help oversee forklift operations and ensure compliance with safety protocols during material handling
  • Contribute to continuous improvement projects focused on streamlining warehouse processes and enhancing overall productivity

Qualifications

  • Enrolled in or recent graduate of a program related to supply chain management, or business administration
  • Demonstrated interest in warehouse operations, logistics, or supply chain functions
  • Basic understanding of warehouse experience and familiarity with shipping & receiving procedures
  • Strong organisational skills with attention to detail and accuracy
  • Willingness to learn new systems such as Warehouse Management Systems (WMS), and transportation management tools.

Duties will include, but will not be limited to:

  • Preparation of metals according to order specifications
  • Preparation of metals ready for transportation
  • Movement of metal stocks using hand and mechanical equipment
  • Operation of a strong and safe working environment, which may involve some cleaning tasks
  • Processing of stock control records
  • Communications with sales team
  • Loading and unloading of stock/deliveries

Training schedule

  • The apprentice will work towards their Apprenticeship Standard in Supply Chain Warehouse Operative.
  • The successful candidate will be assigned a dedicated assessor who will provide support and guidance throughout the course.
  • This is a monthly release programme which means you will attend Lincoln College, one day a month, term time only. This will fall within your contracted working hours.
