Work

Most of your apprenticeship is spent working. You’ll learn on the job by getting hands-on experience.

What you'll do at work

  • Support new-client onboarding, documentation, record keeping and annual reviews to deliver a professional, compliant client experience.  
  • Build your knowledge of the financial-planning process through structured learning, CII study and practical experience.  
  • Carry out market, product and financial research to support high-quality advice for clients.  
  • Prepare technical materials and develop suitability-report content as your paraplanning capability grows.  
  • Work across client-service, paraplanning and advisory teams to understand how each contributes to client outcomes.  
  • Shadow senior Financial Advisors in client meetings and build the confidence to manage client responsibilities under supervision.  
  • Take ownership of your development plan and progress through Academy milestones towards your Level 4 Diploma and specialist or Chartered pathway.

What you'll learn

Course contents
  • Use software packages and digital tools to deliver financial advice or paraplanning services in line with cyber and data security requirements, using data securely and safely.
  • Provide services to clients in line with the business proposition, adhering to Consumer Duty and Treating Customers Fairly (TCF) principles.
  • Prepare financial recommendations in accordance with risk, regulatory, and governance requirements.
  • Comply with service and quality assurance standards for the business, for example complaints procedures and productivity.
  • Communicate with clients and colleagues using methods appropriate for the intended audience, including verbal, written, digital, and virtual.
  • Interpret and communicate financial and business information in a way that facilitates understanding for the intended audience, for example finance and non-finance stakeholders.
  • Build and maintain collaborative, professional relationships with internal and external stakeholders to deliver advisory tasks and achieve successful customer outcomes.
  • Plan and prioritise work to support positive outcomes for both the customer and the firm.
  • Provide individual advice relevant to clients in line with regulatory requirements.

  • Paraplanner – Analyse clients’ current circumstances and research appropriate solutions to meet their needs, objectives, and attitudes to risk.
  • Paraplanner – Provide financial planning support to colleagues using appropriate market knowledge and available software and research tools.
  • Paraplanner – Conduct technical product and fund analysis.
  • Paraplanner – Create personalised client-facing financial planning reports that are tailored appropriately to the audience and in line with regulatory and firm standards.

  • Financial Planner – Conduct KYC activities to fact-find relevant information and establish clients’ financial needs and objectives, including identifying when and where clients may be experiencing vulnerabilities.

Training schedule

You’ll train through a combination of structured study, hands-on experience and support from experienced colleagues. Over three years, you’ll rotate through client service, paraplanning and financial advice, building your knowledge step by step. You’ll study towards the CII Level 4 Diploma, with full support for tuition, exams, materials and study leave.

Alongside your formal learning, you’ll develop practical skills through real client work, market research, suitability reports and shadowing senior Financial Advisors in client meetings.

After this apprenticeship

Year 1: Foundation (Client Service Team) You’ll learn the lifecycle of a client. From onboarding to annual reviews, you will manage the essential documentation and systems that keep our advice compliant and professional. You will begin your initial CII modules, gaining a birds-eye view of the industry.  

Year 2: Technical Excellence (Junior Paraplanner) Progress into the technical team as a Junior Paraplanner. Here, you will begin drafting suitability reports, conducting market research, and analysing complex financial data to support our senior advisors. This year is about building the "why" behind financial advice as you work toward completing your Level 4 Diploma.  

Year 3: Advisory (Financial Advisory) This is the bridge to your career as an Advisor. You will shadow senior experts in live client meetings, learn the art of relationship management, and eventually taking on your own client responsibilities under supervision.
