Work

Most of your apprenticeship is spent working. You’ll learn on the job by getting hands-on experience.

What you'll do at work

  • Preparing ingredients, including washing, peeling, chopping, and measuring
  • Supporting senior chefs to ensure dishes are prepared and served on time
  • Receiving and storing deliveries, rotating stock using FIFO (First In, First Out), and checking expiry dates
  • Keeping work areas clean, organised, and safe throughout service
  • Following food hygiene, health and safety, and HACCP procedures at all times
  • Assisting with end-of-shift cleaning and kitchen maintenance

  • Exercises portion control and acts to maximise yield.
  • Achieves intended quality in terms of texture, flavour, and appearance
  • Identifies and resolves errors during the production process.
  • Assists in the resolution of feedback, complaints, and issues.
