Summary
CRP is looking for a Multiskilled Engineering Operative Apprentice to join its manufacturing team. This is an opportunity to build a foundation in engineering by learning welding, fitting and machining alongside experienced colleagues. You will develop practical skills while working towards the Engineering Operative Level 2 apprenticeship.

What you'll do at work
As a Multiskilled Engineering Operative Apprentice, you will rotate through practical engineering activities and build experience across welding, fitting and machining before progressing towards a welding specialism.
Your duties and development will include:
- Learning safe workshop practices and following CRP's health and safety procedures
- Developing basic welding and fabrication skills under supervision
- Learning fitting and assembly techniques used within a manufacturing environment
- Developing machining skills and learning how engineering components are produced
- Reading and working from engineering drawings, specifications and job instructions
- Learning to use hand tools, workshop equipment and measuring equipment correctly
- Preparing materials and components for manufacturing and assembly
- Checking work for accuracy, quality and conformity to requirements
- Supporting experienced engineers and production colleagues with day-to-day manufacturing tasks
- Maintaining a clean, organised and safe working area
- Building the practical skills, knowledge and behaviours required for progression within engineering
The role is designed to give the apprentice a broad understanding of engineering before specialising in welding at Level 3.

What you'll learn
Course contents
- Work safely at all times, complying with health and safety legislation, regulations, environmental compliance procedures and systems and other relevant guidelines
- Identify and deal appropriately with any risks, hazards, hazardous situations and problems that may occur within the engineering environment within the limits of their responsibility
- Demonstrate effective communication skills which include oral, written, electronic
- Complete appropriate documentation accurately, efficiently and legibly using the correct terminology where required
- Obtain and follow the correct documentation, specifications and work instructions in accordance with time constraints and the roles and responsibilities identified for the engineering activities, extracting the necessary data/information from specification and related documentation
- Select and use appropriate tools, equipment and materials to carry out the engineering operation
- Deal appropriately with any problems that may occur within the manufacturing environment within the limits of their responsibility
- Work efficiently and effectively at all times maintaining workplace organisation and minimising waste
- Carryout fault location on appropriate equipment using suitable maintenance diagnostic techniques
- Carryout maintenance activities in line with work instructions
- Carryout tests on the maintained equipment in accordance with test schedule/defined test procedures
- Follow appropriate completion activities and restore equipment to service by replacing or repairing components
- Plan the mechanical manufacturing operation before they start
- Mount and set the required workholding devices
- Produce individual components, sub-assemblies or completed assemblies using mechanical manufacturing techniques
- Carryout quality checks during and after mechanical manufacturing operations
- Wire and terminate different types of cabling e.g. single core, multi core, screened, fire resistant, armoured, etc.
- Assemble and test a range of electrical components e.g. component panels, isolator switches, fuses, circuit breakers, contactors, relays, rail mounted terminal blocks, etc.
- Assemble and test a range of electronic components e.g. resistors, capacitors, diodes, transistors, etc.
- Follow appropriate completion activities and restore equipment/system to service after the assembly and testing has been completed
- Shape the materials using the appropriate methods and techniques

- Carryout quality checks during and after the fabrication activities

Training schedule
The successful candidate will complete the Engineering Operative Level 2 apprenticeship (ST0537) with Rochdale Training. Training will combine practical development in the workplace with the knowledge, skills and behaviours required by the apprenticeship standard. The apprentice will gain experience across welding, fitting and machining to build a strong multiskilled engineering foundation.
Following successful completion of Level 2, the planned progression is into a Level 3 welding apprenticeship/specialism with CRP. The exact Level 3 programme will be confirmed at the point of progression.

CRP designs and manufactures corrosion-resistant PTFE and PFA lined pipework, fittings and engineered equipment for demanding industries. This provides the successful candidate with the opportunity to develop broad engineering experience first and then build more advanced specialist welding skills.
