Summary

The purpose of this role is to provide efficient and customer-focused IT support across Father Hudson's Caritas. The apprentice will assist in maintaining and improving the organisation's IT infrastructure, supporting colleagues in the use of technology and contributing to the secure and effective operation of systems.

£12,480 for your first year, then could increase depending on your age

Work

Most of your apprenticeship is spent working. You’ll learn on the job by getting hands-on experience.

What you'll do at work

  • Provide first-line IT support to colleagues across Father Hudson's Caritas, responding to queries and resolving hardware, software and system issues in a timely and professional manner. 
  • Assist with the installation, configuration and maintenance of desktop computers, laptops, mobile devices, printers and other IT equipment. 
  • Support the management of user accounts, passwords and access permissions in accordance with organisational policies and procedures. 
  • Log, monitor and update incidents and service requests using the organisation's IT support systems. 
  • Assist with the setup, maintenance and monitoring of networks, servers and cloud-based systems. 
  • Support the implementation of cybersecurity measures and promote good information security practices across the organisation. 
  • Work with colleagues to diagnose technical issues and escalate more complex problems where appropriate. 
  • Assist in maintaining accurate IT asset registers, system documentation and user guides. 
  • Support IT projects, including software deployments, system upgrades and infrastructure improvements. 
  • Provide basic training and guidance to users to help them make effective use of technology. 
  • Ensure all work complies with GDPR, data protection requirements, safeguarding responsibilities and organisational policies. 
  • Develop knowledge, skills and behaviours required to successfully complete the Level 3 Information Communications Technician Apprenticeship. 
  • Attend apprenticeship training, complete coursework and maintain evidence of learning in line with apprenticeship requirements. 
  • Participate in team meetings, supervision sessions and continuous professional development activities. 
  • Uphold the values, mission and ethos of Father Hudson's Caritas, ensuring technology supports the delivery of high-quality services to the people and communities the charity serves.
  • Undertake any other duties appropriate to the level and nature of the post as may reasonably be required by the IT & Data Manager or other authorised manager

  • Use basic scripting to execute the relevant tasks for example PowerShell, Linux
  • Carry out routine maintenance across systems, (such as IT, Communications), ensuring organisational compliance at all times
  • Apply the necessary security, in line with access and/or encryption requirements
  • Use a range of Cabling or Connectors equipment in line with technical requirements for example physically or remotely
  • Test and evaluate network environments
  • Monitor performance and usage of a network
  • Deploy applications on a network
  • Set up storage and data access for staff
  • Apply necessary security measures, in line with access requirements to a network
  • Carry out routine maintenance across network systems, ensuring organisational compliance
  • Monitor network-related workloads including DNS and firewalls
  • Install or undertake basic upgrades, either physically or remotely
  • Establish digital communication or telecommunications systems through, for example cabling and connecting equipment.
  • Identify a range of tools and or diagnostic equipment, for example, Hardware or Software components, to resolve Communications or Telecommunications requirements.
  • Undertake basic telecommunications activities, in response to an allocated task, designated responsibilities, instructions or customer’s requirements.

Expected duration: 17 months

During this apprenticeship, you will follow a fully supported training programme with LearnTech, delivered through combined weekly remote classroom-based training, workplace assessment/training and online learning working towards completing the Information Communication Technician standard.
