Summary

Start your career in youth work with CHEXS while completing the Level 3 Youth Support Worker Apprenticeship. You’ll support young people in schools, community and outdoor settings, build trusted relationships and help deliver activities that develop confidence, resilience, independence and life skills.

Wage

£21,157.50 a year

Salary will be reviewed as required to ensure compliance with National Minimum Wage/National Living Wage requirements throughout the apprenticeship. Additional financial payments are available for eligible outdoor project work with children and young people.

Work

Most of your apprenticeship is spent working. You’ll learn on the job by getting hands-on experience.

What you'll do at work

  • Support the delivery of CHEXS programmes for children and young people in schools, community settings and outdoor environments
  • Build positive, appropriate relationships with young people and help create safe, welcoming and inclusive activities
  • Support group sessions, outdoor learning, creative activities, team-building, personal development and confidence-building work
  • Help young people develop confidence, resilience, independence, communication skills, life skills and positive relationships
  • Listen to young people, encourage them to express their views and involve them in planning and evaluating activities
  • Work alongside experienced Children & Young People staff to support young people who may be experiencing challenges with attendance, wellbeing, confidence, relationships or family circumstances
  • Support work with young people aged 11+, including secondary-age delivery and Year 6 to Year 7 transition activities
  • Prepare resources, welcome young people, maintain attendance records and help activities run safely and effectively
  • Work with schools, parents and carers, the Family Support Team and community partners to support positive outcomes for young people
  • Follow safeguarding procedures, maintain professional boundaries and report any concerns to the appropriate colleague
  • Keep accurate records using CHEXS digital and case management systems
  • Gather feedback from young people and contribute ideas for improving activities and services
  • Attend team meetings, supervision, training and apprenticeship reviews
  • As skills and confidence develop, gradually take greater responsibility for planning, preparing and leading activities with appropriate support and supervision

Training schedule

Training will be delivered remotely during working hours through live online sessions, supported by UCANlearn, UCAN’s learning platform.

The apprentice will attend monthly teaching sessions and group workshops and receive regular one-to-one support from their apprenticeship assessor.

Practical learning and evidence will be developed through their day-to-day work at CHEXS. Progress reviews involving the apprentice, CHEXS and UCAN will take place approximately every three months.

More training information

UCAN will provide the Level 3 Youth Support Worker Apprenticeship and support the apprentice throughout the programme.

The apprentice will have a dedicated apprenticeship assessor and access to UCANlearn for learning resources, activities, evidence submission and progress tracking. Training combines live online teaching, one-to-one support, workplace learning, independent study and practical evidence from the apprentice’s role.

UCAN will also support the apprentice to prepare for end-point assessment towards the end of the programme.

  • This role involves substantial contact with children and young people and is subject to appropriate safer recruitment checks, including an enhanced DBS disclosure
  • Applicants must be able to travel to CHEXS delivery locations across the local area
  • Applicants must be comfortable taking part in outdoor and practical activities
  • Some late afternoon/evening and occasional weekend work will be required to support CHEXS projects, activities and community events. Time off in lieu will apply where appropriate
  • A full driving licence and access to a vehicle is desirable but not essential
