Most of your apprenticeship is spent working. You’ll learn on the job by getting hands-on experience.

What you'll do at work

You’ll work closely with the Financial Controller as part of a small Accounts Team, while also working with colleagues across the wider business.

As this is a small team, you’ll gain broad, hands-on experience across a wide range of accounting and financial administration activities. Your responsibilities will develop throughout the apprenticeship, giving you the opportunity to build your knowledge and confidence across areas including the sales and purchase ledger cycle, costing, time and attendance, reporting and final accounts production.

You’ll receive support and training throughout your apprenticeship while developing practical accounting skills that can provide a strong foundation for progression towards an Accountant role within the business.

As your knowledge and confidence develop, your responsibilities will include:

  • Processing sales invoices using Sage 50
  • Scanning sales packs and summarising financial data
  • Maintaining and updating Microsoft Excel databases and records
  • Supporting credit control, including sending statements and following up overdue payments
  • Matching and entering supplier invoices
  • Collating invoices and information for supplier payment runs
  • Posting bank payments and receipts
  • Assisting the Financial Controller with daily, weekly, monthly and quarterly reporting
  • Maintaining holiday and time and attendance records
  • Completing general filing and maintaining accurate financial records
  • Supporting other areas of the Accounts Team as required and learning from the Financial Controller
