An opportunity to experience work in a well-established company providing window films, architectural finishes, vinyl graphics, manifestation, signage and surface wrapping solutions to clients across the UK.
We work across a wide range of environments including offices, hospitals, universities, retail spaces and commercial developments.

• Wage:

  £27,000 a year

Most of your apprenticeship is spent working. You’ll learn on the job by getting hands-on experience.

What you'll do at work

The Role

As a Signage Technician Apprentice, you will work alongside experienced installers while developing the skills required to become a competent and independent installer.

Your training and practical experience will cover:
● Window film installation
● Vinyl graphics and manifestations
● Printed graphics
● Commercial signage
● Architectural vinyl wrapping
● Privacy and decorative films
● Solar-control window films
● Safety and security films
● Surface preparation and finishing
● Measuring, setting out and cutting materials
Key Responsibilities
You will learn to:
● Prepare glass, walls, doors and other surfaces for installation.
● Measure and set out installations accurately.
● Install vinyl graphics, manifestations and signage.
● Apply specialist window films.
● Install printed and cut vinyl graphics.
● Wrap doors, panels, lifts and other architectural surfaces.
● Trim and finish installations to a professional standard.
● Assist experienced installers on larger projects.
● Handle and store materials correctly.
● Minimise material waste.
● Keep tools, vehicles and working areas organised.
● Complete work in accordance with Guardian's quality standards.
Tools & Equipment
Training will be provided in the safe use of:
● Specialist knives and cutting tools
● Squeegees and installation equipment
● Heat guns
● Measuring and setting-out equipment
● Ladders and access equipment
● Guardian's Film Handler cutting machine
● Specialist vinyl, window film and wrapping materials
Health & Safety
The apprentice will be expected to:
● Follow Guardian Window Films' health and safety procedures.
● Follow site-specific RAMS.
● Wear required PPE.
● Maintain a safe and tidy working area.
● Learn safe working-at-height procedures.
● Complete relevant training such as CSCS and IPAF where required.
● Report hazards, accidents or damaged equipment.
Customer & Site Standards
As a representative of Guardian Window Films, you will be expected to:
● Be punctual, reliable and professional.
● Communicate respectfully with customers and other contractors.
● Take pride in your appearance and workmanship.
● Respect customer property.
● Minimise disruption when working in occupied buildings.

• Protect materials and signs to prevent damage during manufacture, transportation and storage.
• Apply, install or erect signs.
• Check signage materials and products against quality requirements.
• Identify and document risks and hazards in the workplace; advise on and apply control measures.
• Comply with health and safety regulations and requirements.
• Comply with organisational and statutory environmental and sustainability considerations: safe disposal of waste, recycling of materials and efficient use of resources.
• Select, set up, complete pre-checks and operate sign-making machinery, tools and equipment.
• Maintain work area, tools and equipment for example, charge batteries and sharpen blades.
• Use access equipment in the installation process, for example ladders, fixed and mobile platforms.
• Communicate with colleagues and/or stakeholders – verbal, written or electronic; use industry terminology.
• Complete documentation for example job sheets, maintenance records.
• Rectify or report issues.

Training schedule

Training & Development

The successful candidate will complete the Level 3 Signage Technician Apprenticeship Programme alongside practical workplace training with Guardian Window Films.

Guardian will provide opportunities to develop skills on real commercial projects while working alongside experienced installers.

The apprentice will be expected to complete all required apprenticeship training, coursework and assessments.

Essential qualifications

GCSE in:

• English (grade 4)
• Maths (grade 4)
