What you'll do at work

We are looking for a motivated and enthusiastic HR Apprentice to join our team and gain practical experience across a broad range of Human Resources activities. This is an excellent opportunity for someone who is interested in developing a career in HR and would like to gain valuable hands-on experience while working towards a recognised HR qualification.

The successful candidate will work closely with the HR team, supporting the day-to-day administration of the HR function and helping to provide an effective and professional service to employees and managers. You will develop an understanding of key HR processes, policies and employment practices while receiving appropriate training, guidance and support throughout your apprenticeship.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provide general administrative support to the HR team, ensuring HR records, files and systems are maintained accurately and securely
  • Assist with the recruitment process, including preparing and advertising vacancies, arranging interviews, communicating with candidates and completing pre-employment checks
  • Support the onboarding process for new employees, ensuring relevant documentation is completed and new starters receive the information and support they need
  • Assist with employee leaver processes, including preparing documentation and ensuring HR records are updated appropriately
  • Respond to routine employee and manager queries in a professional and helpful manner, escalating more complex matters to an appropriate HR team member
  • Assist with maintaining accurate records relating to holidays, sickness absence, training and other employee information
  • Support the HR team with the preparation of letters, contracts, reports, spreadsheets and other HR documentation
  • Assist with organising and maintaining employee training records and supporting the coordination of training activities
  • Help ensure HR processes are completed in accordance with company policies, procedures and relevant employment legislation
  • Maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive employee information appropriately at all times
  • Assist with HR projects and initiatives, such as employee engagement, wellbeing, equality and inclusion, and improvements to HR processes
  • Support the HR team with meetings, including preparing relevant documentation and taking notes where required
  • Develop a working knowledge of employment legislation, HR policies and best-practice procedures as part of the apprenticeship
  • Attend training and complete coursework required as part of the apprenticeship programme, applying learning within the workplace
  • Build positive working relationships with colleagues, managers and employees across the organisation
  • Carry out other reasonable HR-related duties as required to support the wider team

Course contents
  • Service Delivery: Delivers excellent customer service on a range of HR queries and requirements, providing solutions, advice and support primarily to managers. Builds managers’ expertise in HR matters, improving their ability to handle repeated situations themselves where appropriate. Uses agreed systems and processes to deliver service to customers. Takes the initiative to meet agreed individual and team KPIs in line with company policy, values, standards. Plans and organises their work, often without direct supervision, to meet commitments and KPIs.
  • Problem Solving: Uses sound questioning and active listening skills to understand requirements and establish root causes before developing HR solutions. Takes ownership through to resolution, escalating complex situations as appropriate.
  • Communication & Interpersonal: Deals effectively with customers/colleagues, using sound interpersonal skills and communicating well through a range of media eg phone, face to face, email, internet. Adapts their style to their audience. Builds trust and sound relationships with customers. Handles conflict and sensitive HR situations professionally and confidentially.
  • Teamwork: Consistently supports colleagues /collaborates within the team and HR to achieve results. Builds/maintains strong working relationships with others in the team and across HR where necessary.
  • Process Improvement: Identifies opportunities to improve HR performance and service; acts on them within the authority of their role. Supports implementation of HR changes/projects with the business.
  • Managing HR Information: Maintains required HR records as part of services delivered. Prepares reports and management information from HR data, with interpretation as required.
  • Personal Development: Keeps up to date with business changes and HR legal/policy/process changes relevant to their role. Seeks feedback and acts on it to improve their performance and overall capability.

Training schedule

BPP apprenticeship training programmes are delivered virtually by our fully qualified and industry-experienced training team. Throughout the apprenticeship learners receive coaching, help and guidance from a dedicated team who are there to ensure they get the most from their work experience.

Essential qualifications

GCSE in:

GCSEs including English and Maths (grade A*-C/9-4 or equivalent)

Share if you have other relevant qualifications and industry experience. The apprenticeship can be adjusted to reflect what you already know.
