Summary

Complete an Accounts and Finance Assistant apprenticeship while gaining a recognised qualification and practical workplace experience. You will support routine accounting activities, input and check financial data for accuracy, and assist in producing financial information and statements.

Work

Most of your apprenticeship is spent working. You’ll learn on the job by getting hands-on experience.

What you'll do at work

  • Be aware of the organisation's needs and activities and their impact on accounting and finance
  • Identify, collate and process financial and accounting data from primary sources such as business records
  • Examine financial and accounting data to identify issues with quality and reliability as instructed and in accordance with guidance
  • Rectify errors in financial and accounting data, escalating problems beyond their remit as appropriate
  • Reconcile transactional data to minimise the chance of errors in financial and accounting outputs such as sales and purchase invoices, sales and purchase orders, bank statements, and payroll
  • Plan and review workloads with the supervisor to ensure the best use of time to complete allocated tasks efficiently
  • Communicate with internal and external stakeholders using appropriate methods and professional language. Examples may include letters, phone, face-to-face, e-mail, video call, online chat functions, etc.
  • Use financial and accounting software packages to input and manage data safely and securely in line with organisational instructions
  • Provide support to team members to help ensure that financial and accounting activities are carried out within expected timescales and quality expectations
  • Keep up to date with developments to enhance relevant skills and take responsibility for your own professional development

On completion of the apprenticeship, you will be able to:  

  • Demonstrate understanding of legal, ethical and sustainable requirements in accounting
  • Use financial data processing and accounting tasks in your day-to-day work
  • Communicate financial information clearly to a range of stakeholders

  • Handle data and digital technology in line with cyber and data security requirements, using data securely and safely, including backing up data.

  • LiveOnline: Interactive virtual classes led by expert tutors
  • On-Demand: Self-paced study options with access to our MyKaplan portal, allowing learners to work through materials flexibly
  • on-the-job training with your team colleagues

Essential qualifications

GCSE in:

  • English (grade 4-5/C or above)
  • Maths (grade 4-5/C or above)

Share if you have other relevant qualifications and industry experience. The apprenticeship can be adjusted to reflect what you already know.
