What you'll do at work
he Kia Light Vehicle Technician Apprenticeship programme will support the apprentice to gain the knowledge and skills needed to become a fully qualified and accredited Kia vehicle technician, qualifying them to be responsible for:
- Servicing vehicles
- Repairing and replacing faulty parts and components
- Advising the Service Advisor about faults and required repairs
- Contact with customers about work required
- Diagnosing and repairing complex vehicle faults

What you'll learn
Course contents
- Contribute to the maintenance of a safe and efficient workshop. Segregate waste for disposal or recycling. Comply with industry environmental legislation.
- Demonstrate due regard for own safety and that of others in the workshop and minimise risk of injury and vehicle damage.
- Carry out fundamental tasks associated with removal and replacement procedures on a vehicle.
- Obtain diagnostic and repair information.
- Interpret diagnostic information and use electrical wiring diagrams to determine system serviceability.
- Use a range of diagnostic equipment.
- Follow recognised diagnostic procedures, logical diagnostic sequence and apply advanced diagnostic principles and problem-solving techniques to establish faults.
- Report faults using company procedures and recommend suitable further actions.
- Follow recognised repair procedures to complete a wide range of repairs including those which involve complex procedures, or in depth knowledge.
- Test the function of repaired and fitted components.
- Adhere to business processes and complete documentation following workplace procedures.
- Use ICT to create emails, word-process documents and carry out web based searches.
- Complete a range of services and inspect and prepare a vehicle to the required quality standard for handover to the customer.

Training schedule
Kia Apprenticeship Programme operates using a 12-week cycle. Within each 12-week period, apprentices will receive the following teaching, learning and assessment:
- One college block attendance with teaching delivered by dedicated Tutors (both via Virtual Classroom Training and face-to-face at the Kia Academy in Derby)
- One workplace visit face-to-face with their dedicated Skills Coach
- One tripartite progress review involving the Apprentice, Skills Coach and their workplace mentor
- One 1:1 teaching session with their dedicated Skills Coach via virtual classroom
More training information
- The Kia Academy in Derby is state-of-the-art with the latest diagnostic equipment and has been purposely built to accommodate Kia Apprenticeship and Adult Training across the network
- Apprentices will attend the Kia Academy for Block Training Weeks (Monday-Thursday) every 8-10 weeks. Hotel accommodation is provided for apprentices travelling if required, which is funded by the employer. Therefore, it is at no cost to the apprentice

Other requirements
The Light Vehicle Progression Pathway for the Kia Apprenticeships means that apprentices will undertake their Level 2 Autocare Standard (if not already achieved) and will then be automatically enrolled onto the Level 3 Light Vehicle Standard
