- Stock management - You’ll help order, receive, store and organise medicines and other pharmacy products. This can include checking deliveries, monitoring stock levels and ensuring medicines are stored correctly
- Supporting patients and customers - You may speak directly with patients, answer routine queries and provide appropriate information about their medicines, while recognising when a query needs to be referred to a pharmacist or another healthcare professional
- Medicine safety - A major part of the role is learning how to work safely and accurately. You’ll follow procedures designed to prevent errors and protect patients, including maintaining confidentiality and following relevant legislation and pharmacy policies
- Preparing medication - Depending on your workplace, you may help prepare medicines such as tablets, capsules, creams, liquids or other prescribed items
- Maintaining pharmacy records - You’ll use pharmacy systems to enter and update information, process prescriptions and maintain accurate records
- Working with the wider healthcare team - You’ll communicate with pharmacists, pharmacy technicians, dispensers, healthcare professionals and other colleagues to help ensure patients receive the correct medicines and support
- Handling queries and resolving problems - You’ll learn how to deal professionally with routine issues, such as prescription queries, stock availability or patient requests, and understand when something needs to be escalated
- Maintaining a clean and organised workplace - You’ll help keep the pharmacy and work areas clean, tidy and organised, following appropriate health, safety and infection-control procedures
