Summary

As an apprentice, you will work alongside experienced maintenance engineers, learning how to maintain, troubleshoot, repair, and improve a wide range of production machinery, automated equipment, and site services within a fast-paced manufacturing environment.

Work

Most of your apprenticeship is spent working. You’ll learn on the job by getting hands-on experience.

What you'll do at work

  • Assisting with planned preventative maintenance (PPM)
  • Learning how to diagnose and repair mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic faults under the guidance of qualified engineers
  • Supporting breakdown response activities to help minimise downtime and maintain production efficiency
  • Using engineering drawings, technical manuals, and diagnostic equipment to assist with fault finding and repairs
  • Recording maintenance activities accurately using the company's Computerised Maintenance Management System (CMMS)
  • Following all health, safety, and environmental procedures, including risk assessments and safe systems of work
  • The role may require working at height and, on occasion, in confined spaces. Where applicable, additional training, including Mobile Elevating Work Platform (MEWP) certification, will be provided as part of your ongoing development

Essential qualifications

GCSE in:

Maths and English (grade A*-C (4-9))

Other requirements

A genuine interest in engineering, manufacturing, or maintenance.

A willingness to learn and successfully complete the academic and practical elements of the apprenticeship.

Basic computer literacy and confidence using digital technology.

Any previous engineering experience, engineering qualifications, or vocational studies (such as BTEC Engineering, or Engineering GCSE) would be advantageous but are not essential, as full training will be provided.
