Summary

As an apprentice teaching assistant, you will work under the direction and supervision of a teacher to assist with teaching and learning and associated activities in accordance with school policies and procedures. This includes assisting with learning activities for whole classes, small groups and individuals.

£12,792 for your first year, then could increase depending on your age

The above salary is for full time, you will work TERM TIME ONLY, 39 week per year, your salary will be approx £10,003 for the first year.

Work

Most of your apprenticeship is spent working. You’ll learn on the job by getting hands-on experience.

What you'll do at work

  • Supervising and supporting teaching activities to ensure the safety and learning development of children
  • Monitoring individual pupil progress and reporting any issues to the responsible teacher
  • Assisting with learning activities, preparing or modifying work as directed, and providing behavior management
  • Promoting pupil independence in learning and social skills, reinforcing self-esteem through praise and encouragement
  • Preparing and maintaining equipment and teaching resources for lessons and activities
  • Complying with policies and procedures related to child protection, health and safety, and data protection
  • Participating in relevant meetings and assisting with group activities and programs designed by other professionals

  • Use up to date technology safely, to support learning.
  • Encourage safe use of technology by learners.
  • Adapt teaching strategies to support all learners (for example, scaffolding, open questioning).
  • Identify and respond to pastoral and academic behaviours in learners.
  • Provide feedback to learners.

Training schedule

  • A mixture of blended learning in the workplace and taught delivery every other Friday afternoon at the Loughborough College (optional term time only)
  • Diarised visits from dedicated Trainer/Assessor
  • Attendance to Loughborough College for an Induction Day (Induction to take place on the last Wednesday of the month that you are enrolled, 9:30am-3pm. Confirmation of date provided upon enrolment)
  • Attendance to Loughborough College for Functional Skills (if required)
  • On-the-job training
  • Off-the-job training

Requirements

Essential qualifications

GCSE in:

English and Maths (grade C / 4 or above)

Share if you have other relevant qualifications and industry experience. The apprenticeship can be adjusted to reflect what you already know.
