Summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen at our head office in Pontrilas for an Accounts Apprentice to join our expanding finance department.

We have a successful history of apprentices progressing through their accountancy studies and examinations leading to excellent career progression and growth.

Wage

£15,600 for your first year, then could increase depending on your age

Work

Most of your apprenticeship is spent working. You’ll learn on the job by getting hands-on experience.

What you'll do at work

  • Maintain customer ledger accounts by reviewing bank receipts and posting within Sage 200.
  • Responsible for the closing down of receivable month end ledgers including resolving queries with stakeholders of the company.
  • Prepare financial analysis as requested by the Group Financial Controller / Finance Director to assist with future growth of the Group.
  • Assist senior members of the finance department with collating information for monthly board presentation.

What you'll learn

Course contents
  • Record transactional data.
  • Use the organisation’s standard tools and processes to examine data to identify transactional issues, such as reconciliations and inconsistencies between invoices.
  • Recognise and rectify routine errors, escalating as necessary.
  • Plan and review accounting and finance tasks.
  • Communicate with stakeholders to deliver accurate and timely results, avoiding jargon, using language tailored to the audience, and different media methods, with an appreciation of the risks and benefits to the business of social media and other digital applications.
  • Use finance and accounting software packages to accurately input and manage data to contribute to routine accounting tasks.
  • Handle data and digital technology in line with cyber and data security requirements, using data securely and safely, including backing up data.

Training schedule

Formal training is delivered at HWGTA, located Holmer Road, Hereford HR4 9SX.

You will receive training one day per week which is a combination of face-to-face and remote, as per your assigned training plan.

Additional training for functional skills in English and maths will be undertaken if needed.

You will receive monthly visits from your assigned Learning and Development Specialist, who will set you work, monitor your development and wel-being, and discuss training sessions. They will also prepare you for your End Point Assessment to gain your Accounts/ Finance Assistant Level 2 qualification.

There is also a five-day teambuilding residential trip that is held in the spring of each year offered to all apprentices on programme.

Essential qualifications

GCSE in:

  • English (grade A*-C/ 4-9)
  • Maths (grade A*-C/ 4-9)
